12 weeks, 8 stories, & 156 million summer reading minutes

It's been 12 weeks since the 2015 Summer Reading Challenge began! It's time to check in on how the program is doing and see what's on the horizon in the coming weeks.

Here's a look at SRC 2015 so far, by the numbers:

  • 156,590,137: the number of minutes kids have read and logged through the Summer Reading Challnege to date, which means they're just passed the halfway point towards breaking last year's reading world record of 304,749,681 minutes.
  • 8: the number of original short stories that have been unlocked on the website, from bestselling authors like Gordon Korman, Varian Johnson, Jude Watson, and R.L.Stine! The 8th story was just unlocked this morning and it's by Wings Of Fire author Tui T. Sutherland. You can read Always Pack a Solar Charger: A Cautionary Tale here.
  • 2,476,071: the number of minutes the students of Doedyns Elementary School of San Juan, Texas, have logged so far, naming them the top elementary school to date.
  • 1,683,372: the number of minutes the students of Lake Nona Middle School in Orlando, Florida, have logged to date, making them the top middle school so far.
  • 15,000: the numnber of kids who have played the Innovation Machine Game (also known as the most addictive game ever) and created their very own original short stories from the prompts.
