August's Featured Jobs: 

Designer 

Scholastic is seeking an experienced designer to work on our exciting and varied collection of Trade nonfiction books for kids from ages 0 to 10, our growing list of leveled readers, as well as our various series of Branches early chapter books. 

Responsibilities include:

  • Work closely with the art director to come up with innovative graphic solutions to capture our young readers’ attention. The challenge will involve finding the perfect style of illustration for a particular project, or searching for the most dynamic photographs to bring a subject to life, or creating clear and captivating graphics to make topics fun and easy to understand.
  • Work with the art director on the popular, fully-illustrated Branches early chapter books series. This will involve everything from developing designs and series branding, through creating the layout and art notes, to communicating with illustrators on sketches and final art, and ultimately producing the final perfect book.

Managing Editor/Production, Klutz 

Klutz creates activity books and other great stuff for kids ages 3 to 103. We began our corporate life in 1977 in a garage we shared with a Chevrolet Impala. For those of you who collect mission statements, here's ours: Create wonderful things. Be good. Have fun.  Klutz is a division of Scholastic, the world's largest publisher and distributor of children's books. As the Managing Editor, the main focus of your role will be to manage production of all frontlist and backlist Klutz products.

Responsibilities include: 

  • As the Managing Editor, the main focus of your role will be to manage production of all frontlist and backlist Klutz products.
  • Create and maintain individual production grids for each product
  • Maintain specs overview document for each product, track team assignments and formats along with all requested components and details
  • Copyedit and proofread all stages/passes of mechanicals, marketing materials, blog posts, internal presentations, etc. as needed
  • Oversee on-time creation of sales materials and solicitation images
  • Hire and interact as needed with freelance contractors for proofreading and copyediting
  • Lead weekly production status meetings and manage resulting action points. 
  • Preflight, package, and deliver art files to vendors, making edits directly to digital files

Warehouse/Distribution Center Manager (Albuquerque) 

We are currently in search of a Distribution Center Manager to lead our branch team. Qualified candidates will be able to plan, schedule, direct and execute the day-to-day operational activities of a distribution center in the Book Fair Organization.  This candidate will support our mission to encourage reading and promote lifelong learning, and demonstrate our values of caring and respect for all people.

Responsibilities include: 

  • Evaluate and assess operations of the Branch to ensure adherence to company standards and policies, and optimal performance. 
  • Achieve financial results and manage business-operating costs effectively.
  • Ensure the branch operates in an efficient manner by utilizing effective methods of packing, set-up, delivery, pick-up of book fairs; utilize capacity planning and staffing methods to assure optimum productivity.
  • Conduct annual and semi-annual warehouse sales to reduce inventory levels and maximize revenue.
  • Maintain a clean, safe, and productive work environment while focusing on minimizing work-related injuries and auto losses, complying with OSHA guidelines, and Company directives.
  • Direct, hiring, training, developing and evaluating drivers, warehouse personnel and supervisory staff.
