1. Product Data Systems Manager 

The Product Data Systems Manager will handle maintenance and further development of the corporate product database and all applications and integrations associated with it. EPIC, the company’s Enterprise Product Information Center, is the centralized database for key product data and lifecycle management. The Product Data Systems Manager oversees this system where all new records are set up, production schedules are assigned and channel uses are added/deleted. The Manager serves as a key liaison between the business and IT for all enhancements, from conception and requirements gathering through user training and implementation. He/she must be able to interpret business requests into a clearly defined set of requirements and translate those requirements to IT, partnering with the developers building the system changes. The Manager must come with experience handling system development and enhancement testing/promotion, as well as project management experience working with many stakeholders.

The Product Data Systems Manager must exhibit the interpersonal and communication skills to work with all levels of our internal customers, from training new users to guiding company veterans toward workable technical solutions for their changing business needs. Exceptional organizational and work planning skills are a must, as the Manager must juggle user support, new user training and small enhancements while also keeping larger annual projects on track and on budget. Two years+ data management experience is preferred, with SQL experience a plus.

Key Roles & Responsibilities:

Act as key liaison to the business for the corporate product database, providing user support   and training on enhancements:

  • User support -- Field day-to-day user questions and concerns
  • Train new hires in both group and 1x1 sessions; partner with the Data Quality Manager to provide a solid introduction to our corporate product data standards
  • Demonstrate a high level of interpersonal skills, clearly communicating new enhancements to users

2. Product Development Editor, Klutz

Klutz creates activity books and other great stuff for kids ages 3 to 103. We began our corporate life in 1977 in a garage we shared with a Chevrolet Impala. For those of you who collect mission statements, here's ours: Create wonderful things. Be good. Have fun.  Klutz is a division of Scholastic, the world's largest publisher and distributor of children's books.

Master Builder Needed! Klutz editors make wonderful things, and we’re looking for a wonderful person. If you can look at a pile of LEGOs and make something amazing, and love papercraft, electronics, science experiments, and Star Wars, we’re looking for YOU.   Working collaboratively with a group of talented people, the editors manage the development of books and other stuff, producing kid-friendly products on time and on budget. 

Job Description and Responsibilities: 
The primary responsibility is to develop assigned Klutz books from concept to reality under the supervision of the VP, Product Development. This position will:

  • Act as project manager for each assigned product, ensuring that completed files are ready to send to separator on schedule
  • Develop content (through hands-on exploration and immersion in the topic) that engages, entertains and educates kids
  • Write and develop manuscripts, working with outside contributors when appropriate, that incorporate the Klutz style and qualities of clarity and wit
  • Research related products already on the market to make sure new Klutz offerings are correctly positioned
  • Create budgets and make sure we stick within them
  • Test activities and directions with real-world kids for appeal and clarity
  • Ensure contracts for all freelance work relating to projects (including model releases) are complete and on file
  • Work collaboratively with in-house production group to select ideal attachments, determine best physical book packages and meet margin requirements
  • Work collaboratively with art director, designers, illustrators, photographers and other specialists, both in-house and freelance, to create appealing look for products
  • Provide Sales & Marketing group with information regarding development as required, remaining open to feedback that may improve sales
  • Support fellow editors to ensure quality of entire line
  • Constantly percolate with new product ideas
  • Editors should be prepared to develop multiple projects simultaneously

3. Regional Business Development Manager

Scholastic Inc. is a 91-year old company working globally in education, media and publishing to positively impact children, teens and families. Scholastic National Partnerships works with nonprofit organizations, government agencies and corporations to create pro-social campaigns and educational materials that help teachers, engage kids and benefit families. 

Scholastic’s partnerships leverage the company’s high-impact brand name, exclusive distribution channels and proven resources to support educators and families (through online campaigns, events, education materials, etc) while building awareness of their partner’s brand or pro-social message. For Example, Scholastic has partnered with Lexus for the past 6 years to create an “eco-challenge” for teens. The Lexus Eco Challenge is a life-changing opportunity for teens across the nation to make a difference in the environmental health of our planet, one community at a time. This program provides $500,000 in grants each year to students, teachers and schools to further education in the area of environmental awareness and STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math). Scholastic also has existing government partners and has been the Census Bureau’s key education partner for the past two decennial communications campaigns for their expertise in creating meaningful supplemental educational materials that effectively communicate on the Bureau’s messages, drive desired behavior and reach specific population segments.

Scholastic is looking for a Washington DC based Regional Manager of Business Development to work with existing partners and to build new relationships in the DC area with federal, nonprofit, associations and corporate partners.

Responsibilities
The successful candidate will be directly responsible for developing a minimum of $2 million in new and expanded behavior change, cause marketing partnerships utilizing Scholastic full breadth of offerings including book clubs, book fairs, scholastic.com, premium books, supplemental educational programs, event and print marketing channels.  The candidate will be expected to maintain strong client relationships for Scholastic within the DC territory. 

The position requires excellent consultative sales skills and experience at senior levels, as well as excellent communication skills.  While the Regional Business Development Manager has support from sales, marketing and creative teams, this candidate must also possess an entrepreneurial spirit and willingness to handle all aspects of the sales process.

4. Director of Business Development

Scholastic’s Family and Community Engagement (FACE) literacy program brings together research-based programs and strategies that empower families, communities, and students in support of teaching and learning.  The five key priorities are family engagement, expanded learning, early literacy, access to books and mentoring partnerships. FACE is part of Scholastic’s Classroom & Community Group (SCCG).

We are in search of a Director of Business Development to develop and maintain high level relationships within key FACE non- traditional markets and accounts and Learning Support Services. This position would be responsible for developing and executing the sales strategy for FACE programs & services within the non-traditional market segments (i.e. corporations, foundations, community based organizations, state, and local government) and traditional markets.  This position would be responsible for achieving the FACE and Learning Support sales revenue goal, supporting key accounts, growing new business sales opportunities and supporting all the appropriate sales channels promoting FACE and Learning Support services.  Creating customized solutions based on customer/market needs.
