Warehouse/Distribution Center Manager: Scholastic Book Fairs (St. Louis, MO)

Scholastic is looking for a warehouse/distribution center manager. The person in this position will be directly responsible for planning, scheduling, and directing the day-to-day operational activities of a mid-sized distribution facility in St. Louis, MO. The manager will also evaluate and assess operations of the Branch to ensure adherence to company standards and policies, and optimal performance. 

Responsibilities include: 

Financial Management

  • In conjunction with Field Director of Operations, plan and prepare the annual budget for the Branch unit
  • Achieve financial results and manage business-operating costs effectively
  • Achieve budgeted goals, including direct operating costs, revenue per fair through quality production and timely service to customers, and overall branch profitability

Operations Management

  • Implement operational efficiency improvements and utilize capacity planning and operational metrics to achieve the branch’s financial results
  • Ensure the branch operates in an efficient manner by utilizing effective methods of packing, set-up, delivery, pick-up of book fairs; utilize capacity planning and staffing methods to assure optimum productivity
  • Conduct annual and semi-annual warehouse sales to reduce inventory levels and maximize revenue stream
  • Monitor, evaluate, and manage inventory utilization and inventory control procedures/processes to achieve company objectives

Senior Amazon Redshift Engineer (Secaucus, NJ)

Scholastic is seeking a Senior Amazon Redshift Engineer to lead the development on the Scholastic Data Cloud. The candidate will demonstrate a successful track record of engineering Cloud-based Big Data platforms in support of BI & Analytics initiatives.

The Senior Amazon Redshift Engineer will be comfortable working across the full spectrum of data engineering disciplines spanning database architecture, database design, and analytic solution implementation. The person in this position will also work as part of an interdisciplinary Agile team closely aligned with Scholastic business units to develop and deploy descriptive, predictive and prescriptive analytical solutions. Finally, the Engineer will work closely with peers and management to strengthen analytic competency across the enterprise.

Responsibilities include:

  • Lead the development function on the Scholastic Data Cloud, engineering the Scholastic Data Cloud platform for scalability, performance, optimal cost and a high degree of integration with other cloud and ground-based data and application platforms
  • Mentor DB engineers and serve as the organization’s expert on the Scholastic Data Cloud platform technologies
  • Build scalable databases in a Lambda environment for the consumption of structured and unstructured data using batch, micro-batch, and streaming data acquisition
  • Develop ETL/ELT and data integration routines

Digital Developer: Classroom Magazines

The Scholastic Classroom Magazines team is looking for a digital developer. The person in this role will be responsible for developing front-end digital elements including interactive games, webpages, minisites and standalone components using web standards and best practices.

Responsibilities include:

  • Implement and administer digital elements using two different content management systems
  • Contribute to and organize code using Git
  • Work within an agile methodology including daily scrums to track tickets and workflows in JIRA
  • Liaise with editorial staff, designers, production staff, QA teams, and editorial staff to determine what’s possible, and to build and implement web assets from responsive designs and annotations
  • Work closely with third-party, back-end developers in meetings and through JIRA to refine and clarify requirements for the development of new builds, and to anticipate questions and problems they may have

Senior Digital Producer: Classroom Magazines

The Senior Digital Producer will act as a product manager for digital development in Scholastic’s Classroom Magazines division. As we migrate and reimagine our content into new systems, we need a strong product manager who understands our business and has an interest in shepherding projects from conception to completion.  

Responsibilities include: 

  • Partner with editorial leadership to create and maintain websites and other digital properties for educational magazines 
  • Manage ongoing production for projects after launch, by supporting production staff and working with stakeholders on enhancements 
  • Work with editors and designers to conceive new projects, through discovery and design, ensuring that customer and business needs are met 
  • Represent editorial needs to business analysts and development teams, serving as a key communicator between business and technology groups
