John Evans Elementary School Wins Scholastic Book Fairs Fall 2017 National Elementary School Contest

Last week John Evans Elementary in Oviedo, FL celebrated its achievement as the first place winner of the Scholastic Book Fairs Fall 2017 National Elementary School Contest. The school was awarded 2,000 Scholastic Dollars™ and an in-school visit from Dav Pilkey, bestselling author and illustrator of the Captain Underpants and Dog Man series.

As part of the contest entry, schools were encouraged to share ways they planned on engaging student and their families during the fall “Wild West” Book Fair. Ideas included book themed activities, programs, contests, challenges, special events and advertising strategies.

The elementary school was transformed into “Evans Ranch,” complete with a covered wagon and horses. To build excitement for their book fair, students took part in a country line dance in the school hallway, and art teachers showed students how to draw Captain Underpants and Dog Man characters, which were then used to decorate the book fair.

The main event of the week was a family hoedown, featuring live country music provided by the school’s music teacher. The hoedown also featured carnival games with accompanying prizes, a photo booth, and book giveaways.

Scholastic Book Fairs® is ecstatic to award Evans Elementary the honor of first place in the Fall 2017 National Elementary School Contest!
