What's it like to intern at Scholastic? (part 4)

This year's crop of summer interns have (mostly) left us as August comes to a close...but their experiences won't be forgotten. Today we're featuring Julia Elliott, a rising senior at Hofstra University, who spent her summer interning in our Trade Publicity department. Fitting, since she's majoring in Publishing Studies and Literature! We asked her about her internship experience:

What's the most surprising thing you learned/uncovered during your summer internship?
Julia Elliott: Working with the Publicity department at Scholastic was such a unique experience because I got to be involved in so many varying kinds of projects and meet people from practically every department.  I was able to discover in much more depth what I like to do and where my talents lie.

Is there a book you began reading as a result of hearing about it at Scholastic?
I came to Scholastic around the same time as the release of Natalie Lloyd’s debut novel, A Snicker of Magic. One of the perks of being a Scholastic employee is that I got a copy for free, and then met the author in person and had my book signed. It made for a wonderful read on the subway and LIRR. I’m so happy that my introduction to Scholastic literature was such a sweet, heartwarming story!

What's next for you?
I’ve got one more semester left until I graduate college (ahhh), and then I am off to NYC to find a place of my own in the publishing world. I've always known that I wanted to be a part of making books and stories, and thanks to my wonderful interning experiences I am more certain than ever that I'm on the right path.

Best of luck, Julia! Catch up on our previous intern stories:
